four years.

babe. remember this day? four years ago. you just called and woke me up to wish me a happy anniversary and you asked where we were four years ago today. you and cliff were getting ready to golf. he didn't even know if he needed his clubs to be right handed or left. that's is so funny to us. i was heading to breakfast and off to get all fancy for our wedding. i am so thankful you are my husband. now more than ever. lets never lose sight of what's important and what we are about and who we are in Christ. promise.

i love looking back. we were so young...and we are still pretty young. but certainly much stronger and wiser now i think.
it's pretty incredible to look back and see how much we have grown and fallen more in love over the past years. i think right now is the best its ever been. don't you think? it has not always been easy. but it's always been right. you and me. because we know we are both in this no matter what. marriage, graduate school, leaving the life we knew and moving from ky to va, new job for you and for me, loving students, traveling, moving, our first baby, cancer. those are some of the biggies. with lots of little moments in between that make us...us. i think we were given a gift that summer at rockbridge in 2005. we both never planned to be there and then everything changed. in one month. how the Lord brought us both together when neither of us were looking. it was the best surprise of my life. i am so thankful for that and for you.
i think we will celebrate things a little differently now. knowing what a real gift it is to have each other and ava. the three of us. our precious family.
happy four years...here's to many many more. we are just getting started.

  21. Libby,

I don't think I've ever commented on your blog before. And I can't even remember which of my facebook friends posted a link to it back in September. But I've been praying for you. I've been hoping for every triumph and hurting with you. You wrote in this post about being completely surprised by God with the blessing of Justin. God has surprised me too. I am completely in love with the most wonderful man. I never would have picked him for me. God truly choose him and slid him into my life in a most unexpected, unlooked for way. So Joseph and I have been talking about marriage and praying about our life and future together. I've been feeling horribly guilty about even considering putting together a nice wedding. It seems like so much expense and these are tough times and I have college debt. So I've been praying that God would clear this whole thing up. There's been moments when I say forget it I don't want to spend anything, I don't care who's there, it's too much work. But reading your post today and looking at your wedding pictures. I realized that during this incredibly hard year of your life how precious this day and the memories of it must have been for you. And then God reminded me of how many times he asked people and his nation to build monuments so they could remember important events and his work. Those monuments were time consuming and work and probably felt burdensome and joyful all at the same time. But they were markers to help people remember. And a wedding day, with some planning and intention and beauty and people I love is like that. It takes work to put it all together but it will create a marker that I can hold onto and Joseph can hold on to even when it's hard and painful. Your writing has touched me often and I've cried during many of your posts. But today He used you to relieve me of the guilt I felt about the money and to give me the answer I have wanted for weeks about what to do. A wedding of some sort will be an invaluable marker as Joseph and I walk through life's joys and challenges. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
